2025 Incredible Impacts Programme: Applications Now Open

Applications for the 2025 Incredible Impacts Programme are now open, inviting associations to showcase events that create meaningful and lasting change. This year, the application process has been streamlined to make it easier for associations to participate.

For inspiration, take a look at one of last year’s finalists, the World Association of News Publishers. Their 2024 World News Media Congress championed press freedom and sustainability in journalism, equipping members to navigate industry challenges while tackling news accessibility for younger and marginalized audiences. The event demonstrated how international meetings can drive meaningful conversations and long-term impact.

Celebrating 25 Years of BestCities Global Alliance

This year, we celebrate 25 years of championing legacy-driven business events that create lasting impact.

Since our founding in 2000, BestCities has grown from five to 13 partner cities, fostering knowledge exchange, sustainability, and community impact through initiatives like the Incredible Impacts Programme and the Madrid Challenge.

Over the years, we have supported global conferences in driving positive change, distributed $200,000 in funding for impactful initiatives, and built a network of association leaders committed to sustainability. As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to shaping a more sustainable, socially impactful meetings industry.

City Buzz: What’s Happening in BestCities Destinations

Guadalajara

Guadalajara Named the Home of ITB Americas

Guadalajara has been selected as the host city for ITB Americas, with the inaugural edition set to take place at EXPO Guadalajara from November 10–12, 2026. This major win positions Guadalajara as a key player in the global travel and meetings industry, joining BestCities Global Alliance partners Berlin and Singapore as hosts of ITB’s world-renowned trade shows.

ITB Americas will be the leading travel trade show for North, South, and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, following the success of regional ITB events in Berlin, Singapore, Shanghai, and Mumbai. With ITB Berlin attracting over 100,000 trade attendees, 190 represented countries, and 5,600 exhibitors, ITB Americas is expected to bring a similar level of industry influence and opportunity to the region.

This milestone reinforces Guadalajara’s growing global reputation and its capability to host world-class events on an international stage.

Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) in Guadalajara
Guadalajara is currently hosting the Ultimate Tennis Showdown, bringing top international tennis talent to the city and further elevating its status as a global sports destination.

Melbourne

AIME 2025 Wrap-Up
The Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) once again brought the business events industry together, attracting over 660 exhibitors and 640 buyers from 30 countries. With an estimated 20,000 business meetings held, AIME continues to be a key driver of business opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Melbourne Convention Bureau Launches Business Events Impact Report
The Melbourne Convention Bureau has released The Positive Impact of Business Events Report, highlighting the economic and social contributions of business events. Over the past decade, Melbourne has hosted 1,620 business events, generating AUD 2.34 billion for the economy and supporting over 29,000 jobs. The report showcases case studies demonstrating the long-term impact of international conferences and summits held in the city.

Singapore

PCMA and Marina Bay Sands Partnership Extended Through 2027
During Convening Leaders 2025 in Houston, Texas, PCMA, Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau sign MOUs to anchor PCMA’s Asia Pacific (APAC) signature conference, The Business of Events, at Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands through 2027. The three-year partnership will further solidify PCMA’s growth and commitment throughout the region and provide a purposeful platform for impactful knowledge sharing and industry advancement. 

Changi Airport Passenger Growth (January 2025)
Singapore’s Changi Airport recorded a 13% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic, surpassing 6 million travelers in January for the first time. This strong growth is also reflected in the number of inbound tourists as Singapore welcomed 1.63 million tourists in January, with the majority being tourists from China. This is an increase of 78.3% compared to the same period last year before the mutual visa exemption arrangements.

The government has allocated another S$5 billion to further support the expansion of Changi Airport to secure Singapore’s standing as a critical gateway for travel and trade. This includes the construction of Terminal 5 which is expected to open in the mid-2030s and will be able to handle up to 50 million passengers a year, on top of Changi Airport’s current capacity of 90 million.

Minion Land has arrived at Universal Studios Singapore! It is the only Minion-themed land in Southeast Asia and it is set to draw visitors and locals of all ages, offering yet another compelling reason to explore and enjoy Singapore. The launch of Minion Land at Resorts World Sentosa is more than just fun and mischief—it is a testament to the continuous rejuvenation of Singapore’s offerings, ensuring a pipeline of fresh and innovative experiences for visitors and locals.

Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix 2025 Headliners Announced
Global music icons G-Dragon and Elton John are set to headline the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2025. Beyond the high-speed action on track, Singapore’s F1 night race is renowned for its stellar entertainment line-up—and this is just the start. More acts will be unveiled in the coming months to complete an exciting race weekend, promising an unforgettable Grand Prix experience.

Coldplay Showcases Singapore in New Music Video
Singapore’s diverse cityscape and vibrant culture come to life in the global release of Coldplay’s “Man In The Moon” MV. In a collaboration with Warner Music Group, Coldplay’s latest music video is filmed entirely in Singapore. Not only does the video highlight Singapore’s stunning cityscape, but it also features Singapore’s local talents and youths who come from diverse backgrounds and identities, celebrating the many voices and cultures that make Singapore special.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen Wins XL Meetings Destinations Award 2024/25
Copenhagen was recognized with the XL Meetings Destinations Award 2024/25 at The Meetings Star Awards during Conventa 2025 in Ljubljana. The city was celebrated in the XL category for its leadership in sustainability, legacy initiatives, and innovative meeting concepts, as well as standout destination actions like the CopenPay initiative.

World Athletics Road Running Championships 2025 to be Largest Ever
The World Athletics Road Running Championships in September 2025 will be the largest event of its kind, with 65,000 runners expected to participate. Bringing together elite and recreational runners from around the world, the event will transform Copenhagen into a global running hub with a world-class racecourse and festival atmosphere. The championship is set to generate significant economic impact and further solidify Copenhagen’s reputation as a premier host for international sporting events.

Tokyo

Asian and Oceanian Parkinson’s Disease Congress (March 21–23, 2025)
Tokyo will host the 9th Asian and Oceanian Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Congress, bringing together researchers, medical professionals, and patient advocates to discuss advancements in treatment and care.

International Symposium of the Asian and Pacific Parkinson’s Disease Association (March 2025)
Held alongside the congress, the symposium will provide a platform for individuals living with Parkinson’s, their families, and caregivers to engage with experts and learn about the latest developments in the field.

Washington, DC

WorldPride 2025 Comes to Washington, DC (May 17–June 8, 2025)
Washington, DC is set to host WorldPride 2025, welcoming visitors from around the world for a celebration of inclusivity, arts, and human rights. The event will feature parades, cultural exhibitions, and performances, reinforcing DC’s reputation as a diverse and welcoming global city.

Destination DC Hosts Global Marketplace Event
Destination DC held its annual Global Marketplace event at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, bringing together over 250 travel and tourism industry leaders to discuss international travel trends and marketing strategies.

Dublin

Destinations International Global Leaders Forum (February 11–13, 2025)

Dublin hosted the first Destinations International Global Leaders Forum outside North America, bringing together industry leaders to discuss sustainability, inclusivity, and the evolving economic landscape.

Historic NFL Game at Croke Park (September 2025)

Dublin will host its first regular-season NFL game at Croke Park, with the Pittsburgh Steelers as the designated team. This historic game further strengthens Dublin’s reputation as a global sports destination.

St. Patrick’s Festival (March 15–17, 2025)

Cape Town

Cape Town Named Best Long-Haul City Break for British Travelers (2025)
Cape Town has been ranked as the top long-haul city break destination for British travelers by a survey conducted by Which? magazine, based on key criteria such as food, accommodation, cultural attractions, and overall value for money.

Cape Town to Host G20 Side Meetings (February 2025)
As part of South Africa’s G20 presidency, Cape Town will host key G20 side meetings, including the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting and the Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. These high-level discussions will play a crucial role in shaping global financial policy and economic strategies.

Berlin

Major Medical and Tech Congresses Coming to Berlin in 2025
Berlin continues to solidify its reputation as a top congress destination with major events such as the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation Congress (February 19–22, 2025), ESMO Congress (October 17–21, 2025), GITEX Europe (May 21–23, 2025), Re:publica (May 26-28, 2025), the WeAreDevelopers World Congress (July 9-11), and Big Bang 2025, Europe’s largest AI festival, from September 10-11, 2025. These events reinforce Berlin’s position as a global hub for medical, technology, and innovation-focused meetings.

ITB Berlin (March 4–6, 2025)
The world’s leading travel trade show, ITB Berlin, returns, bringing together thousands of exhibitors, trade visitors, and industry leaders. The event offers unparalleled networking opportunities, industry insights, and innovations in the global meetings and tourism sector.

Berlin’s 2024 Tourism and Conference Growth
For the first time since 2019, Berlin recorded over 30 million overnight stays in a year, with 12.7 million guests visiting in 2024. International travelers made up 42% of visitors, with the UK, USA, and the Netherlands being the top three markets.

Vancouver

Invictus Business Event Familiarization Trip (February 6–9, 2025)
Destination Vancouver welcomed global conference professionals and medical experts for an exclusive Familiarization (FAM) trip. Set against the backdrop of the Invictus Games, the experience highlighted Vancouver’s world-class life sciences sector and its commitment to advancing medical research and rehabilitation.
